21 States Sue Trump Admin Over Clause Used to Cut Federal Funding

A coalition of 21 attorneys general from more than 20 states and the District of Columbia has filed a lawsuit against the Trump administration over a provision it used to justify cuts to billions of dollars in critical federal funding. The lawsuit, filed in the U.S. District Court for the District of Massachusetts by attorneys general from states including Arizona, California, Illinois, Massachusetts, Michigan, and New York, cites a clause from the Office of Management and Budget that says a grant can be terminated if it “no longer effectuates the program goals or agency priorities.” The suit lists dozens of federal agencies as defendants, including the Department of Agriculture, Commerce, Defense, Homeland Security, Justice, Labor, and State, as well as the Environmental Protection Agency....
