Iowa’s Top Court Upholds Ballot Removal of 3rd-Party Candidates

An Iowa panel correctly removed three Libertarian candidates from 2024 ballots because they did not follow the alternative procedure via which they chose to qualify, the Iowa Supreme Court ruled on Sept. 11. Congressional candidates Nicholas Gluba, Marco Battaglia, and Charles Aldrich “could have qualified for the November general election ballot by filing nomination petitions with signatures like the other political party candidates,” justices said. “They relied instead on an alternative procedure afforded by Iowa law. Having done so, they had to be in compliance with that procedure. In sum, like the district court, we find that strict compliance was required and the Libertarian Party did not comply.”...
