Trump replaces head of IRS amid Treasury and Elon Musk dispute

President Donald Trump replaced the acting commissioner of the IRS, Gary Shapley, on Friday at the request of Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent, according to a NBC News source familiar with the discussions. Shapley had been picked by Elon Musk to run the IRS, but did not receive Bessent’s blessing. Deputy Treasury Secretary Michael Faulkender is now expected to take on the role of acting commissioner.
