Federal Farm Politics Have Never Been Worse
Earlier this year, Trump’s U.S. Department of Agriculture stopped payments on more than $20 billion appropriated by Congress for regenerative agriculture and local food purchasing programs.
Instead of a genuine Farm Bill, the Republican-led Congress is pushing Trump’s “Big Beautiful Bill,” which slashes hunger program funding to funnel more money to wealthy landowners and polluting factory farms that produce unhealthy junk food ingredients.
There may still be time to stop this!
But if the House passes the bill before our newsletter goes out, we’ll update the alert to include the news. You can find out how your representatives voted and we encourage you to tailor you messages accordingly, thanking those who voted no and urging accountability from those who voted yes.
To see if the House has voted on H.R.1 and how your Representative voted, go here.
Unfortunately, the Senate passed the bill on Tuesday. Find out how they voted here.

HEALTH
The Industry Misinformation and Deception on Pesticides, Food Additives, and Chemical Safety Testing
Dr. André Leu D.Sc., BA Com., Grad Dip Ed., International Director, Regeneration International:
In the previous articles in this series, I showed that the official requirements set by regulatory authorities for specific testing of pesticide-induced diseases in children are nearly non-existent. The OECD guidelines state that “Young healthy adult animals of commonly used laboratory strains should be employed.” The fetus, infant, and pubertal animals (i.e., children) are not tested.
The developing fetus, young children, and adolescents going through puberty are three critical stages in human development that are completely overlooked in the guidelines for diseases, endocrine disruption, and cancer. There is no published scientific evidence-based testing demonstrating that any of the current chemicals and pesticides are safe for our children, as there is no requirement to specifically evaluate their safety.
By deliberately avoiding testing, the pesticide cartels and their captive regulators can claim that their studies show no evidence of harm. A classic example is glyphosate. Whenever a study presents evidence of harm, the pesticide cartels and regulators assert that their studies prove it is safe when used as directed. Consequently, they take no action.

NEW REPORT
GOP Tax Bill Would Mean 11.8 Million People Uninsured, $1.1 Trillion in Health Cuts
Nathaniel Weixel, The Hill, AOL:
“The Senate Republicans’ tax and spending bill, which is speeding through the chamber, would result in deeper health care cuts and more people without insurance than the version that passed the House, according to a report from the Congressional Budget Office (CBO).
The legislation would result in 11.8 million Americans losing insurance by 2034, CBO found: nearly 1 million more people without insurance than the House version. That amount includes an estimated 1.4 million people without ‘verified citizenship, nationality, or satisfactory immigration status’ who would lose their state-funded coverage.
The legislation would also cut federal spending on Medicaid, Medicare and ObamaCare by $1.1 trillion, with more than $1 trillion coming from Medicaid.
The CBO’s analysis confirms that despite President Trump’s repeated pledges to only cut waste, fraud and abuse in Medicaid, the legislation would enact an unprecedented reduction in the program currently used by more than 70 million low-income Americans.”

ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE
Inside a Plan To Use AI To Amplify Doubts About the Dangers of Pollutants
Dharna Noor, The Guardian:
“An industry-backed researcher who has forged a career sowing doubt about the dangers of pollutants is attempting to use artificial intelligence (AI) to amplify his perspective.
Louis Anthony ‘Tony’ Cox Jr, a Denver-based risk analyst and former Trump adviser who once reportedly claimed there is no proof that cleaning air saves lives, is developing an AI application to scan academic research for what he sees as the false conflation of correlation with causation.
Cox has described the project as an attempt to weed ‘propaganda’ out of epidemiological research and perform ‘critical thinking at scale’ in emails to industry researchers, which were obtained via Freedom of Information Act requests by the Energy and Policy Institute, a non-profit advocacy group, and exclusively reviewed by the Guardian.”

APPETITE FOR A CHANGE
Harmful Ultra-Processed Foods May Be Removed From Billions of California School Lunches
Sandee LaMotte reports for CNN:
“Numerous studies have linked an additional serving a day of ultra-processed foods, or UPFs, to a greater risk of developing or dying from dozens of adverse health outcomes, including cancer, heart disease, obesity, type 2 diabetes and various mental health conditions.
Which of the thousands of ultra-processed foods on grocery shelves could be most responsible for such ill health? To date, answers are elusive. Research is in its infancy. Expert advocates and food manufacturers disagree on harms and definitions, while lobbyists battle behind the scenes.
California, however, intends to offer a solution in just over a year.
On Tuesday, a bipartisan coalition of the California State Assembly voted to pass AB 1264, which lays out a plan to remove ‘particularly harmful’ ultra processed foods from the state’s school meals.”

Help Us Fight for Small Farmers, Kids and Transparency in Our Food System
The future of our food system is under attack.
The latest Farm Bill proposal, in the “Big Beautiful Bill,” would slash funding for hunger programs and funnel billions to wealthy landowners and polluting factory farms.
Meanwhile, the pesticide industry continues to mislead the public about the safety of their products, putting our children’s health at risk. The truth is, current testing guidelines completely overlook the unique vulnerabilities of fetuses, infants, and adolescents.
It’s unacceptable that regulatory agencies allow this, and it’s up to us to demand change.
By supporting our mission at the Organic Consumers Association, you’ll be helping to let your representatives in Washington know your stance on ‘Big Beautiful Bill” and advocate for a Farm Bill that prioritizes organic, regenerative agriculture, local food systems, and nutrition programs. As well as exposing the pesticide industry’s misinformation and pushing for stricter safety testing that protects our children’s health.
Every dollar counts. Will you join us in this fight? Donate today and help us create a better food system for all!

PRESS RELEASE
Communities, Tribes, Businesses, & Elected Officials Are In Adamant Opposition to Rescission of the Roadless Rule
Natural Resources House, Press Release:
“What They Are Actually Saying – and What The Trump Administration is Ignoring: Roadless Rule Rescission:
President Joel Jackson, Organized Village of Kake: ‘Our forests are just now healing from the extensive clear-cut logging in the past. Number one is food security, and our deer and moose are rebounding. The remaining old growth timber is so important for providing shelter, the berries, and our medicines. It provides shade for our streams to keep them cool so our salmon can return year after year. We are the people of the forest and salmon people. Salmon has sustained us for thousands of years.’
Hunter McIntosh, President and Executive Director of The Boat Company: ‘Forty-five years ago, my father founded The Boat Company because he couldn’t stand by and watch the Tongass be gutted—clear-cut by a reckless timber industry, fueled by government subsidies that outpaced even agriculture’s biggest players. He believed this forest was worth fighting for. And now, all these years later, I find myself in the exact same fight. The same threats. The same destruction. The Tongass isn’t a renewable resource—you can’t replant ancient trees or restore what’s been lost to greed. This has to end. Not just for us, but for every generation that comes after.’
Leda Huta, Vice President of Government Relations, issued this statement for American Rivers: ‘This is a major blow to our nation’s efforts to protect our most important source of clean drinking water, and conservation efforts nationwide. Protecting public lands is an efficient way to protect a significant portion of our nation’s finite water supply. Overturning this rule flies in the face of good stewardship of our outdoor heritage and natural resources.’”

USDA WATCH
Bitter Harvest — 30 Years of Broken GMO Promises
GMWatch:
“Whatever happened to GM Golden Rice? And wasn’t GM salmon supposed to revolutionise aquaculture? Three decades after the first GMO crops were planted, Save Our Seeds, in collaboration with GMWatch, with contributions from Beyond GM, explores the fate of eight GMO promises once presented as game-changers. The conclusion: bold claims, dismal delivery.
In 1995, the US Department of Agriculture approved the first Bt maize and glyphosate-tolerant soybean, opening the way for large-scale cultivation of genetically modified (GM) crops. The promises came thick and fast: GMOs would feed the world, reduce chemical use, and save children from malnutrition. Thirty years on, GM crops occupy just 13% of global arable land, and largely concentrated in a handful of countries. Most of the promises remain unmet.
Bigger yields, fewer chemicals?
The biotech industry pledged to ‘grow more with less’– less pesticide, less fertiliser, less environmental harm. GM crops were billed as a way to “reverse the Silent Spring scenario” described by Rachel Carson in her 1962 classic.”

MENTAL HEALTH
RFK Jr. Is Bringing Psychedelics to the Republican Party
By Erin Schumaker, POLITICO:
“Driven by a desire to help ex-servicemembers with mental illness, GOP lawmakers led a failed campaign last year to persuade the Biden administration to approve psychedelic drugs.
Now they may have found the ally they need in President Donald Trump’s health secretary, Robert F. Kennedy Jr.
‘These are people who badly need some kind of therapy, nothing else is working for them,’ Kennedy said at a House hearing Tuesday. ‘This line of therapeutics has tremendous advantage if given in a clinical setting. And we are working very hard to make sure that that happens within 12 months.’”
