Reps. Massie, Khanna to Force Vote on Requiring Congressional Approval for Iran Strikes

WASHINGTON—Reps. Ro Khanna (D-Calif.) and Thomas Massie (R-Ky.) are planning to introduce a resolution to require President Donald Trump to seek congressional approval before ordering U.S. military action against Iran. The Trump administration has repeatedly threatened military action if Iran doesn’t accept a new deal to curb its nuclear development. Since January, Trump said he has directed two aircraft carrier strike groups to the Middle East, bolstering the U.S. capacity for military action in the region. “Trump officials say there’s a 90 percent chance of strikes on Iran. He can’t without Congress,” Khanna wrote in a Feb. 18 X post. “[Massie] & I have a War Powers Resolution to debate & vote on war before putting U.S. troops in harm’s way. I will make a motion to discharge to force a vote on it next week.”...
