The Bayer Protection Acts (AKA the Pesticide Immunity bills) refer to legislation being proposed across several states that would give Bayer and other corporations immunity from legal accountability for misrepresenting the safety of their products, including Roundup/Glyphosate.
TAKE ACTION: Ban Roundup, Don’t Bail Out Bayer! Stop the Bayer Protection Acts
Below is an update on the state of Bayer Protection Act legislation in each state. This document was last updated on: 4/3/2025
Oklahoma
VICTORY! The Bayer Protection Act was pulled from Oklahoma’s 2025 legislative agenda! According to local organizers, the bill was unpopular, and as a result, it did not have enough votes to pass. Leadership took it off the agenda, and it’s now past the deadline to move forward in 2025. But we can expect that Bayer and their lobbyists will try again next year. Thanks to everyone in Oklahoma who reached out to their representatives; your work killed this bill!
Georgia
The Bayer Protection Act (HB 424 / SB 144) was passed in Georgia and is headed to the Governor’s desk. If Georgia’s Governor Brian P. Kemp signs this bill into law, it would give Bayer and other corporations immunity from legal accountability for misrepresenting the safety of their products, including Roundup/Glyphosate. Georgia’s Bayer Protection Act will be on the Governor’s Desk by April 4th, 2025 and if he doesn’t sign or veto it within 40 days, it automatically becomes law.
TAKE ACTION: Please call Georgia’s Governor Brian P. Kemp (404) 656-1776 and ask him to veto SB 144/HB 424: The Bayer Protection Act.
Florida
Florida’s Bayer Protection Act (HB 129 / SB 992) HB 129 passed out of the FL House Civil Justice & Claims Subcommittee on 4/3/2025. The Senate version of the bill, SB 992, has not passed out of committee yet, but if you live in Florida, it’s time to send a message to your state lawmakers asking them to oppose this legislation before this bill moves closer towards becoming law.
North Dakota
North Dakota’s Bayer Protection Act (HB 1318) has already passed in North Dakota’s House, and has passed out of the Senate Agriculture and Veterans Affairs committee. This means the bill is headed for a floor vote in the senate, and if it passes, it will head to North Dakota’s desk to be signed into law. This means it’s time for folks in North Dakota to reach out to their State Senators and ask them to oppose North Dakota’s Bayer Protection Act (HB 1318).
Missouri
Missouri’s Bayer Protection Act (SB 14 / HB 544) has passed out of the Missouri House and the Missouri Senate Agriculture, Food Production and Outdoor Resources committee and is expected to be brought up for a vote in the Missouri Senate soon. The Senate has until May 16th to pass it. If the Missouri Senate passes this bill, it will be sent to the Missouri Governor’s desk to be signed into law. If you live in Missouri, please take a moment to send a message to your state lawmakers asking them to oppose this legislation.
Tennessee
Tennessee’s Bayer Protection Act (HB 809 / SB 527) has passed out of committee in the Senate and could be heard in the Tennessee Senate floor for a vote soon. The bill is scheduled to be heard by the House Judiciary Committee on April 2, 2025. If Tennessee’s Bayer Protection Act is passed out of this committee, it will be sent to the Tennessee House floor for a vote. If the bill passes these 2 chambers, it will be sent to Tennessee’s Governor’s desk to be signed into law. If you live in Tennessee, please take a moment to send a message to your state lawmakers asking them to oppose this legislation.
Iowa
Iowa’s Bayer Protection Act (SB 394) was passed in the Iowa Senate with a vote of 26-21. To become law, this bill would have to pass through the Iowa House, then be signed by the Governor. According to local organizers, the leadership in the Iowa House is unlikely to try to pass their version of the bill this year. If you live in Iowa, please take a moment to send a message to your state lawmakers asking them to oppose this legislation.
Idaho
Idaho’s Bayer Protection Act (HB 303) was pulled from consideration. We don’t know if it will be re-introduced, so we’ll hold off on celebrating. But things look promising. If you live in Idaho, we’d still like to ask you to take a moment to send a message to your state lawmakers asking them to oppose this or future legislation that would give corporations immunity from legal accountability for misrepresenting the safety of their products.
