April 30, 2026 – Lawmakers in the House of Representatives passed a farm bill this morning with a vote of 224 in favor to 200 opposed. Three Republicans voted against the bill, and 14 Democrats broke ranks with their party to vote in favor.
The vote on the Farm, Food, and National Security Act of 2026 came after several controversial amendments nearly tanked the process.
An amendment to remove a provision that would have given pesticide companies immunity from some liability claims passed at the last minute, with nearly all Democrats voting in favor and Republicans split, 75 in favor to 133 opposed.
“Major pesticide issues haven’t been debated on the House floor in a very long time” Jason Davidson, Senior Food and Agriculture Campaigner with Friends of the Earth, said in a statement. “For the people to win over the size, influence, and money of the pesticide industry is a remarkable display of grassroots power and a tremendous victory for Americans’ ability to hold these companies accountable.”
