There’s a moment in every long fight when you have to hold two truths at once.

The first truth: the food movement just won something real. The so-called Luna Amendment, stripping liability shields from pesticide companies, was removed from the Farm Bill. That didn’t happen by accident. It happened because Americans across the political spectrum, from organic farmers in Iowa to moms in the suburbs of Atlanta, said enough. No more get-out-of-jail-free cards for the corporations poisoning our fields and our families. That victory belongs to everyone who has ever risked calling this out, and we should name it clearly before we do anything else.

The second truth: the Farm Bill that just passed the House is a deeply flawed document that will cause real harm to real people, and we cannot celebrate our way past that.

I’ve spent two decades watching Washington write farm policy for corporations while telling farmers it’s for them.
